SPECIAL PERMISSIONS REQUIRED BY OCI CARDHOLDERS

When does an OCI Cardholder require Special Permissions from Indian Mission/FRRO concerned?

The OCI Cardholders shall be required to obtain a special permission or a Special Permit, as the case may be, from the competent authority or the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer or the Indian Mission concerned, if they intend to undertake the following:

  1. Research.
  2. Any missionary or Tabligh or Mountaineering or Journalistic activities;
  3. Internship in any foreign Diplomatic Missions or foreign Government organizations in India or to take up employment in any foreign Diplomatic Missions in India;
  4. To visit any place which falls within the Protected or Restricted or Prohibited areas as notified by the Government of India

Points to remember:

1.OCI Cardholders who are staying aboard and intend to visit India for Research activities are advised to obtain the Special Permit from the concerned Indian Mission abroad before commencing Research in India.
