About us

Bureau of Immigration (BoI) was set up in 1971. It’s headed by Commissioner of Immigration. FRROs & ChIOs handle Immigration services at the various Immigration Check Posts (ICPs) in India. BoI is responsible for Immigration services at various ICPs along with the Registration formalities and Visa Services of foreigners residing in India in accordance with extant Acts, Rules and Regulations.

Altogether, there are 110 Immigration Check Posts (Air/ Sea/Land/Rail/ River) in India, catering to international traffic.  There are 12 FRROs (Foreigners Regional Registration Officer) located at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai Kolkata, Amritsar, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Kozhikode, Lucknow and Ahmedabad. Apart from this, there are 24 Chief Immigration Officers functioning in Goa, Jaipur, Gaya, Varanasi, Nagpur, Pune, Indore, Mangalore, Trichy, Coimbatore, Bagdogra, Chandigarh, Haridaspur, Kannur, Dera Baba Nanak, Raxaul, Sonauli, Gede, Munabao, Chitpur,  Guwahati, New Jalpaiguri, Dhamra & Mopa. At remaining places District Superintendent of Police (SPs) are the FROs (Foreigners Registration Officers) to facilitate emergency cases of foreigners.
